Spicy Urban Outfitters Catalog
Urban Outfitters is hipster-eque, but generally not all that racy. They’re definitely amping up the sex factor with their early spring 09 catalog. I made a quick tally of their semi-scandalous photos:
- Topless women shots: 2
- Naked women shots: 2
- See-through top shots: 3
- Girl in shower with wet bathing suit shots: 1
- Girl straddling unkempt man shots: 1
Are they going after American Apparel? Abercrombie? Just trying to spice things up? Bare skin is no stranger to fashion, but the current women’s catalog seems like a departure from their others. Download it online if you’re curious.
I think they’re definitely imitating American Apparel. In fact, that is the first thing I thought of when I saw their catalog. AA has been doing the see-through top shots (and they have just recently come out with a see through leotard) as well as the topless shots when modeling a skirt or short.
I think it was a bad move on UO’s end because their whole image is now not very differentiated from other retailers and obviously they imitated AA (whom I LOVE).
no way i love urban outfitters, they came before american apparal anyway!
