Color-coded Closet: yay or nay?
This photo, from the blog of Material Concern (a Shop It To Me Trendsetter), instantly made me think about re-organizing my closet (it’s that spring cleaning time of year!)… and the merits of organizing clothing by color vs. by type of garment.
I’ve always been a personal fan of organizing by item type (pants together, skirts together, dresses, etc) with color being secondary. Of course, after sorted by clothing type, all of my white t’s are nicely stacked and black pants hung together….
However, I definitely have some friends who primarily organize by color-coding their closet, sometimes even in rainbow order! A little quirky I think!

I like to do white, brown, red, orange, yellow…all the way up to black then grey.
It makes it SO much easier to get ready for work, and actually reduces the amount of time doing laundry, since it’s easy to pick stuff out and unworn clothes stay unwrinkled
Organizing by color – a YAY. Absolutely!
It helps you realize that you have 7 white blouses and probably don’t need any more. A place for everything and everything in it’s place!
I’m also a big fan of the painted (or wallpapered) closet. I recently painted mine a beautiful magenta. It makes picking out my outfit that much more inspiring when opening the closet door is reminiscent of peering into a beautiful jewel box.
absolutely! It makes life SO much easier and I don’t loose my favorites in the morass of my closet.
I just recently color coded my closet and I love it. It has made it easier for me to see what I have and I still need to get to complete my wardrobe. I give it two thumbs up!
Color coded all the way and definitely not quirky! I tried to sort by style for a while but then tried color coding and it has been SO much more helpful in putting an outfit together.
I thought I was the only one!!! I have color coded my closet for yeeeeaaaaaaars…it makes it so much easier and plus when your closet doors are open, it looks pretty too :)
i do the same as you .first i organize by item and then by color…….i do this since i was 10 lol.i’m too organize.
