A belated congratulations to Tamra and her husband Ron! We finally got a hold of their wedding photos, and are so excited to officially announce their marriage! Don’t you just love the long train on her stunning gown?! And get this – her bridesmaids were allowed to wear their own black dresses. Lucky gals!

The two tied the knot on Sunday, August 2, in Michigan, where they were able to share the big day with their closest friends and family. Shortly after, they hopped on a plane to Mexico, where they enjoyed a lovely and relaxing honeymoon on the beach in Mexico. One of the highlights? Parasailing!

A huge congrats to the bride and groom, and from all of us at Shop It To Me, we wish you the very best!

Last week, I posed the question of whether Alice & Olivia or Elizabeth and James should win Battle of the Brands Round 2. Alice & Olivia won and is now in nearly a dead heat with Theory as we’re in the middle of Round 3.
If I needed a standout dress for a party, I’d have to pick Alice and Olivia. (The fiery red dress in the picture below? Yes please!) But if my wardrobe had to solely exist on one brand or the other, I’d go with Theory. There’s no denying they’re both hot:

The winner advances to the Final Four. What brand deserves the spot?

Monica H. is the lucky winner of Battle of the Brands Round 2! She won a long knotted Marc by Marc Jacobs necklace.
Here’s a photo of our lovely winner. (She’s riding a bike ride in the background behind her sister, who’s sporting Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses – how apropos!)

“I’m so excited to have won the Battle of the Brands giveaway,” Monica said. “My Shop It To Me alerts always brighten my day because of the amazing deals I find, but I never expected to win anything – let alone an MBMJ necklace!”

You knew an LBD was versatile, but Sheena Matheiken shows just how adaptive it can be with her fundraiser The Uniform Project. The challenge: to wear the same dress every day for a year. (Don’t worry – she has 7 copies of it.) The purpose: to generate money for schools for children in India’s slums.
I’m amazed by how different the outfits continue to be on a day-to-day basis – and she’s already a third of the way through the experiment! Here are a few of the ways she’s styled her LBD:

Good inspiration for when you’re feeling confined by your closet.

Imagine a land where subways are silent, public restrooms are spotless and it’s the norm for men to look ultra trendy. After my most recent trip I learned this is in fact called “Japan”. I just got back from my first-ever visit to Tokyo and Kyoto and I loved the food, the landscape and especially the style.
Here are a couple of guys who were hanging out in front of La Foret, an amazing department store in Tokyo:

Having a sharp fashion sense definitely seemed to be part of the culture in the Tokyo, and Harajuku was one of my favorite style-spotting neighborhoods. It’s known for “cosplay” or costume play, where people dress up in costumes to represent anime or other popular characters. But I found the regular street style just as interesting.
Another La Foret shot…

This is a chic couple in Ginza, the upscale shopping district of the city. Is it wrong that I want a pair of both the woman’s, and her son’s, boots?

I snapped a shot of this couple in Kiddyland, a crazy multi-level store full of kiddie toys that’s totally worthwhile whether you’re a kid or not. (I really wanted a tuna roll USB drive they offered but alas, it was around $80…not so kiddie-priced.)

I’m so glad I was able to take a photo of this girl because she’s wearing one of those outfits that just needs to be captured.

If you’re looking for more Japanese street style, take a look at bijin-tokei – it actually posts a photo of a trendy girl every minute of the hour! And taking a look at the photos fabulous blogger Jane Aldridge put on her site Sea of Shoes is a must.
What are your thoughts on Japanese style?

Lets face it – we all pick up habits from our parents. Whether it’s your mom’s neatness or your dad’s sense of humor, they’ve likely influenced, in one way or another, the person you’ve become. La Vita E Bella is here to talk how her parents’ shopping habits rubbed off. Be sure to check out her blog dedicated to the ups and downs of being a young lady, fashion, politics, and literary discussion!
When I look at pictures of myself from younger years, before I had control over what I wore, I realize I was a classically dressed little girl. My mother always had me in smocked dresses, good shoes and yarn hair bows that adorned my long brunette locks. But then the photos change. There is suddenly a young lady with a short bob and practical pieces. My mother says she got tired of doing my hair and took me one day to chop it off. And let me tell you, the short chic bob is still my favorite hair style. But I digress; my parents really taught me that classic, timeless, quality pieces were the best to have in a wardrobe.

I have great memories of my dad leaving for work in his Burberry trench coat which he had for many years (and may still have). I relived that memory when I purchased my Burberry Snap Front Quilted Jacket in Fall of 2004 in Washington DC. It is timeless and I wear it all the time and the fact that Burberry still makes it tells me that it is classic. Still when I am shopping with my mother she is quick to remind me that purchasing one or two classic pieces is a much better in the long run than purchasing more trendy pieces that will be in my “donate to charity pile” in 3 months.
