Incorporating Runway Style into Everyday Looks

We’re all inspired by runway trends, b**ut translating the looks from Fashion Week into wearable outfits isn’t always easy. Meggy from ChasingDavies, a blog about chasing deals, unique finds, & precious pieces, is here to show us how to make Spring runway trends more everyday appropriate!

I don’t know about you, but I’m always in awe when reviewing the looks from Fashion Week. What we see walking down the runway is undoubtedly art, but it’s not always easy to determine what’s actually wearable.

I’m excited to share my favorite Spring 2010 Runway looks and show you how I have been wearing these styles on a day-to-day basis….

Painterly Prints – with an edgy smudge and splatter effect, this look might leave you questioning what the print actually is! But it’s colorful and fun, and I’ve definitely been enjoying this one.

Runway Look:

I love to mix colors in outfits, and doing so with prints is super easy! However, I’m pretty sure I would look like a grandma in this Cynthia Rowley number. I decided to take inspiration from this dress and create a printed look of my own:

Stores that carry painterly prints include New York & Co (like the skirt I’m wearing), J.Crew, Ann Taylor Loft and Target. Using this trend on a smaller scale (i.e. skirt vs. dress) will ease you into the use of a full-blown outfit print! Just pair with a simple top and you’re good to go.

Another runway trend that is definitely doable and fun is asymmetrical and cut-out shoulders.

Runway Look:

While this trend might not be completely work-appropriate, with the proper fit and amount of fabric it’s great for a night out. Drawing attention to one area (in this case your shoulders) but keeping more conservative coverage in other areas helps keep this style classy.

This dress by Asos (now sold out, unfortunately), bares the shoulders but keeps the rest of the dress more conservative, for an overall sexy look.

Another option is turning a simple one-shoulder top or dress into something more abstract, by layering it over a T shirt or a tank! I decided to try this look out with my own duds…

For a more modest look, I layered a one shoulder dress over a t-shirt.

Runway looks predict the trends, but it’s up to us to implement them! Go ahead, try out that look you’ve been eyeing since fashion week. Feel free to mix and match the items in your closet, and as always, and have fun with  your style!
