Designer Spotlight: Go from Spring to Fall with Tibi

Attending the Tibi Fall 2010 Fashion Show last week reminded me just how adorable and refreshing this line is! Tibi is a great brand for the gal who loves to look feminine and cute, wants to be comfortable, and has fun dressing up. Reminiscing about the charming designs I saw motivated me to do a little Sale Spot searching and I was thrilled with what I found. Not only are there a number of looks that make me antsy for Spring, but the deals are fantastic!

Y-3 Fall/Winter 2010 – Sporty Designs, Red Roses, and a Brawl!

On Sunday I attended the Y-3 Fall/Winter 2010 fashion show, and boy does designer Yohji Yamamoto know how to entertain a crowd! Rather than showing in the tents at Braynt Park, the collection was presented in the enormous Park Avenue Armory, where Simon & Garfunkel tunes blasted to a full on laser show, as the models strutted their stuff down the runway. Here are a few of my favorite looks from his Fall/Winter line:

I was immediately smitten with the high, quaffed ponytails and teal eyeshadow the female models were rocking. And unique detailing on menswear, including one-shoulder suspenders, added a very special touch to the casual, sporty designs. In true Yohji fashion the looks were loose fitted and athletic, but with an added military feel.

The finale included the distribution of red roses to select front-row attendees in honor of Valentine’s Day, followed by a mock fight between Yohji and two of the models (of course the girl won!). The crowd was charmed and it was a fun, lighthearted finish to an impressive show.

Tracy Reese Fall 2010 – Femininity With an Edge

Yesterday I attended the Tracy Reese Fall 2010 show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and was amazed by it’s mood-boosting effect. Not only were the designs lovely, but the floral backdrop gave off a fantasyland feel, the music was upbeat, and the models were actually smiling!

Tracy Reese’s designs are known for their femininity, and what made this season stand out to me was the “girl power” feel the looks gave off – with fringe jackets, suede pants, and oversided scarves. While she did incorporate a refreshing dose of something different, there were still enough floral frocks and blue and pink pastels to make me want to throw a tea party.

Ports 1961 – The Fall/Winter 2010 Collection

Being in New York at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has been quite a thrill. Yesterday I headed to Bryant Park for the Ports 1961 show, and here are a few of my favorite looks from the Fall/Winter 2010 collection:

They did flowy, they did structured, and they nailed every look. I loved the femininity of the collection and fabulous accessories were like the cherry on top of a sundae – from pink tights and killer platform shoes to aviator caps taming enormous curls. The setting was divine and combined with the fashion it made for a lovely presentation.

LBD not cutting it? We have cocktail dresses for the cold!

While cocktail dresses tend to be required year-round, the weather is not always permitting. Let’s face it – a tiny strapless dress (though maybe adorable) just isn’t enough in, say, a blizzard. Even beneath your warmest winter coat! For this reason, I’ve been loving the fabulous variety of fun and functional long-sleeved mini dresses in Salemail lately. Rosa Chá Fall/Winter 2010 – Where the Beach Meets the Boudoir

There is something so exciting about coming across a new and inspiring designer. Recently, amidst scrolling through online lookbooks and runway photos, I happened upon Rosa Chá – a Brazilian line that I was less familiar with, but totally wowed by. I love the way this particular label has taken swimwear and turned it into something that’s way more fashion than functionality.

Both the arctic temperatures we’ve been experiencing and my love for Rosa Chá make me wish I had hopped on a plane to São Paulo Fashion Week (January 17th-22nd)! Presented by Chanel Iman on January 17th, the label was shown for the first time in Brazil since creative director Alexandre Herchcovitch stepped on – adding a fresh and innovative spin.

While Rosa Chá is primarily a swimwear line, Herchcovitch is in tune with the season – incorporating dresses, leggings, catsuits, and outerwear.

“This is a fundamental moment for us to be able to use the brand’s DNA in a larger number of pieces that go from fitness, spa, and the beach, to outwear,” says Herchcovitch, who signed on in 2009 when founder Amir Salama left the label.

The light pink and bright florals combined with lace detailing delivers the perfect dose of femininity-with-an-edge, from hat to toe!
