Emmy Awards: View from the Red Carpet

Last night marked the 62nd Annual Emmy Awards, and, as usual, the Red Carpet pre-show had us glued to our televisions. Some celebs took the classic route with black or tan gowns, but a few of them went wild in violet and electric blue! We always love seeing more adventurous styles when it comes to award shows. They don’t call it entertainment for nothin’!

clockwise from top left: Christina Hendricks, Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta, Claire Danes in Giorgio Armani Prive, Emily Deschanel, Anna Paquin in Alexander McQueen, January Jones in Atelier Versace

If you were attending an award show swarming with celebrities, what would you do: play it safe in a simple but gorgeous gown, or take a risk and sport a stand-out look?

A Closer Look at Sterling Style + Marc Jacobs Giveaway!

We recently had the pleasure of chatting with one of our favorite style bloggers, Taylor, from the adorable and inspiring Sterling Style! She has a way of infusing all of her outfits with a certain girly something… we are loving every look she puts together. Check out our interview with Taylor below, and be sure to subscribe to her amazing blog!

What inspired you to start a blog and how did you choose the name Sterling Style?

I decided to start a blog so that I could share all my inspirations online with others. I chose “Sterling Style” because Sterling is my middle name and has been in my family for years. My dad calls me Sterling. Plus, I thought it was fitting.

How would you describe your style in a nutshell?

My style is a little all over. I am inspired by different things every day. However, I tend to dress casual, feminine, and bohemian a lot. Lately, I am feeling more classic.

What are three articles of clothing you couldn’t live without and why?

My watch- I love wearing a watch and I feel naked without one. My blazer- it can be transformed into so many styles and looks. A white tee- always classic and comfortable.

What are 5 of your favorite brands?

Stella McCartney- for her classic and beautiful animal friendly designs, Chloe- I always love the neutral colors and beautiful menswear looks, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Acne, and my new favorite Isabel Marant!

What types of items do you like to save $$ on and what do you find “splurgeworthy”?

I like to save money on basics. It is easy to get great tanks and tees at Gap, American Apparel and H&M. I like to splurge on accessories like handbags and shoes! Right now I am coveting a handbags by Botkier and Balenciaga, and shoes from Acne.

Any tips/style advice you’re willing to offer our readers?

Always stay true to yourself. Style comes from a woman who is confident and happy. Her true beauty and personality shows through her style. It is fine to grab inspiration from others, but don’t try something unless it feels right to you.

We’ve teamed up with Sterling Style and are giving away an adorable Marc by Marc Jacobs bag! Hurry, hurry and enter the contest now!

Wild Style at Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot is a key event in the UK’s social calendar. Dating back to the 18th century it is particularly well known for Ladies Day, when ladies sport the most spectacular hats.

Royal Ascot has lived up to its reputation for weird and wacky head gear this year, including a compilation of London sights (Big Ben and the London Eye), a giant ice-cream, horses head and a huge model of the Wold Cup trophy, as well as the usual feathers, fluff and dangly bits!

This year’s fashion winners were beautiful blues as seen on Amanda Holden, Jasmine Guinness, Princess Beatrice and even the Queen.

If you love a sky blue check out this RM by Roland Mouret linen blend dress – a steal at £409 reduced from £1023 or if sober navy is more you the Calvin Klein silk shift now £277 from £797.

We also loved the fact that some celebrities looked like they’d stepped off the set of My Fair Lady with their monochrome outfits; Jasmine Guinness with a fabulous Stephen Jones creation, Erin O’Connor, Kate Silverton, Holly Valance, Carol Vorderman and Louise Redknapp.

To be honest every girl needs a good little back dress as one of her wardrobe essentials. We like this McQ Alexander McQueen dress reduced to £157 from £315 or the Vivienne Westwood Anglomania black drape dress.

Wimbledon Style: How To Dress the Part

The oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world starts today in Wimbledon, London; well known for its strawberries and cream, Henman Hill / Murray’s Mount, and Cliff Richard doing sing-a-longs when it rains! While the club colours are purple and green, the players are required to play in all white, though already this year 19 year old French woman Tatiana Golovin has been causing a stir with her red knickers.

We thought it would be great to support this tradition (and show a little love to our UK readers!) by looking at the fabulous white dresses that came up in Shop It To Me UK Sale Spot this week.

Festival Fashion: Create your music-inspired masterpiece!

Coachella may be only a memory, but this doesn’t mean we can put spring/summer music festival style behind us! With the New Orleans Jazz Festival just passed, and a long lineup of festivals approaching, there’s no better time than now to get your closet concert-ready.

Coachella was flooded tons of our favorite celebrities, and some of these ladies really know a thing or two about style! Rachel Bilson, Camilla Belle, and Alexa Chung nailed it with their chic, casual looks. Checking out photos from festivals past is a great way to find outfit inspiration…

When it comes to festival attire – there are two main things to consider: looking stylish, and feeling comfortable. Think loose, flowy dresses and airy jumpers. Top off your look with a solid pair of sunnies and don’t be afraid to pile on the jewelry!

For all those in the UK… we know many of you even made the trek to Coachella! So no matter where you live – whether you’re waiting for Bonnaroo or gearing up for Glastonbury – Sale Spot has what you need to land your music-inspired masterpiece!

1. Marc by Marc Jacobs Disco Stripe Romper: was $248, now $173 2. Antik Batik Embellished Maxi Dress: was $186, now $109 3. ASOS satin and chain headband: was $13, now $8 4. Free People denim boyfriend shorts: was $78, now $45 5. Free People tunic dress: was $128, now $89 6. Steve Madden boots: was $149, now $49

And if you forget everything we’ve said, let us just leave you with this: be creative and have a blast! Festivals are the perfect time to get funky and have a little fun with fashion!
