Inside Peek at Rue Magazine Cofounder and Editor-in-Chief Crystal Gentilello

rue-magazineWith its bright, cheery interiors and sophisticated, saliva-inducing styling, nothing gets our design gears going quite like the online lifestyle publication Rue. In celebration of its fifth issue, we caught up with Cofounder and Editor-in-Chief Crystal Gentilello. Not only did she dish on the makings of the magazine, she also shared her style mantra and revealed a few trends she’d just never do.

How did you decide to start Rue magazine?
My cofounder, Anne, and I saw a gap between the world of publishing and technology so we decided to launch a digital publication about something we love – design and style – to hopefully help bring those two together.

Just added Retailers: Ssense and Reiss

We’re pleased to announce a stellar duo of new retailer additions to Shop It To Me. Welcome, Ssense and Reiss! It goes without saying that Salemail just got a little more stylish.

Ssense offers a fiercely fashion-forward selection of clothing, shoes and accessories for women and men, with hot off the runway looks from the likes of Proenza Schouler, Balmain and Alexander Wang. One thing we love about Ssense (and yes, there are many) is their modern style and unique site experience — with stiffly-posed models sporting jet-black bobs, you can’t help but feel chicer after a little browsing.

Reiss is a UK-based retailer centered on creating and producing directional, design-led menswear, womenswear and accessories. We won’t lie, it always thrills us when a European site we love starts shipping overseas. Reiss provides that luxurious shopping experience, with a style selection that’s far from mainstream. If you are a fan of classic style with a twist (think Club Monaco, Vince, Malandrino) and haven’t already added Reiss to your profile, we suggest you do so ASAP!

Be sure to keep an eye out for Ssense and Reiss in Salemail, and stay tuned for more exciting additions in the very near future. We have some good ones coming up that you won’t want to miss!

Top 7 T-Shirt Brands You Can’t Live Without

Let’s face it… every woman, to an extent, is a “t-shirt and jeans kind of girl”. Even the most stylish of stylish need a day off, and this is why owning a few luxe essentials is a really good idea. You’ve probably heard of American Apparel, C&C, Ella Moss, and the like, but there are many other less-established labels that give these brands a run for their money in the plain white tee-department.

The Best T-Shirt Brands

T by Alexander Wang

Soft as can be, but with edgier cuts than the norm, these shirts are definitely a fave of the Shop It To Me team. Known primarily for his high-end and fiercely fashion-forward RTW collections, Mr. Wang brings that same appealing aesthetic to the masses with his more affordable, extremely wearable “T” line.

KAIN Label

Cropped and sheer or long and loose-fitted, KAIN label offers a variety of t-shirt options in the $70-$150 range. Made of modal and silk, their fabrication is so soft and comfortable, you’ll barely know it’s there at all. We must warn you, though — while comfortable they can be a little on the see-through side, so prepare to wear a nude bra or layer it up!

James Perse

Probably safe to assume many of you have heard of this line, but there’s no way I could do an awesome tee roundup without including good ol’ JP. Those of you who own will likely agree — once you buy one shirt, you will buy many. Flattering, easy to wear cuts, in the most comfortable material known to man — James Perse is pretty much the cream of the crop when it comes to essentials, in my opinion.

Generra

From solid shirts to sundresses, this brand makes quality essentials like no other. A tad thicker than your average shirt, they are durable without sacrificing that casual, clingy fit that make basic tees so appealing. On the higher end price wise, but with Generra,  you get what you pay for – and we can’t ask for more than that, can we?

Three Dots

The company began with only three styles, three sizes, and twelve colors, and has quickly become a go-to for variety, comfort, and classic design…now extending their options into cashmere, dresses and more! With prices in the $40 range and up, Three Dots is a great choice for cute, quality basics.

Bop Basics

Did you know that Shopbop.com – the fashion-forward retailer we know and love – also has an exclusive line of stylish basics? Racer back tanks, slubbed jersey shirts, and more…they’ve got all the day-to-day essentials you want at a friendlier price point than most.

LnA

This brand has attitude, without sacrificing it’s widespread appeal. For t-shirts and other basics with a little added sass, LnA has you covered. An excellent choice for your everyday top, edgy cropped tee, or even a cool pair of cut-out leggings (but don’t worry, we’ll save the legging schpiel for another blog post).

Have questions about picking out the perfect basic tee (or anything else, for that matter)? Email stylist@shopittome.com with any shopping queries — we’re always here to help.

Also, be sure to add the brands that appeal to you to your Shop It To Me profile — visit your Brands Page, select the ones you want, and hit save! You can then shop the tees instantly on your own Search page.

Designer Jillian Harris Dishes on Sale Shopping and Spring Style

This past weekend fans and aspiring reality stars flocked to the Reality Rocks Expo in Los Angeles. One of our favorite faces of reality was in attendance—the always charming and sweetly styled Jillian Harris of Extreme Home Makeover: Home Edition and Bachelorette fame.

Designer Jillian Harris Dishes on Sale Shopping and Spring Style

When Jilly told us she was searching her Salemail for a few things to wear to the event—we couldn’t help but hook her up with a handful of pieces. This adorable sequin clutch by BCBGMAXAZRIA included! While we were at it, we asked her to dish on sales and spring style.

What are your favorite brands to wear when you’re at work on TV or when you’re kicking back in your “normal life”?  Are there brands that you think stylish women should really be loving right now?

I wear Aritzia, Joe Fresh, Target, Forever 21 when I’m on set – my stuff gets dirty so I try to shop inexpensively! Other than that I love Haute Hippie, Shoshanna, Michael Kors, Alice + Olivia, and Jay Godfrey.  I think women should find what suits their personality and shop within their budget.  My only rule is to keep it classy.  If you’re going to show legs…don’t show cleavage, and if you’re going to show a little cleavage, cover your legs.

Are you a “sale” girl?  What are your tips and tricks for sale shopping?

120% I try to splurge on items I will have for a while, especially jeans and purses.  But trendy items I must get on sale or from Forever 21, Target or Joe Fresh. Shop It To Me is both good for the high end items and the low end so you can kill two birds with one stone, so to speak!

Finally, what are you lusting this spring?

Fringe & Feathers!
