S/S 2011 Collections Give Us Something to Look Forward to!
Fall is just beginning, and we’re already anxiously awaiting next spring’s trends; sleek lines, good cuts, fabulous colors, and all with a feel of sophistication and glamour. There’s also a bit of a 70′s disco vibe going on that we can see ourselves embracing for our girls’ nights out…
A few of our favorite looks from the runway:
In New York:
It has to be Tory Burch – we loved her funky spin on classic design, using bright oranges, light pinks, and mustards!
In London:
Giles – fun and edgy looks, loads of great dresses, and we couldn’t get over the glitter… a girl can never have too much!
In Milan:
The show that kick started the week, Gucci… great style and those jewel colors had us swooning!
In Paris:
We couldn’t get enough of Christian Dior’s sailor girl theme – beachy frocks, fun hats, and to die for jackets!
We’re checking our Salemail now to see if we can scoop up any bargains with a S/S 2011 vibe.

3 Military-inspired Looks from BlueBee.com!
Cristi Silva, a 30-something Santa Barbara mom and customer service guru/order packer at BlueBee.com, is here to share three ways to embrace this season’s Military Trend. She has the great fortune of encountering rad reps, coolly dressed chicks and dudes, fashion mavens, and designers on a daily basis. Be sure to check out Cristi’s blog THATSORAD for a spyglass into her awesome world!
The military/surplus trend is an essential part of your fall 2010 wardrobe. At Blue Bee, we see military style from just about every line we carry. Here is how to make this trend work in your wardrobe.
LOOK 1 – If you are an extreme fashionista, you’d likely love super-rad brands such as Robin’s Jeans for cargos. They have detailed embellishments on their back pockets that symbolize military badges, zippers, and camo denim fabric. Incorporate another important trend for Fall 2010, such as a leather jacket, asymmetrical top, and an amazing pair of military-inspired boots.
LOOK 2 – Not the Hipster Street style type? Stay true to a softer side of surplus with our long time favorite: Da-Nang. They own Indonesian surplus style with their eclectic washable silk cargo pants, shorts and beautiful Surplus Jackets. Take one piece such as their classic cargo jacket and wear it with a fun and feminine top, a pair of grey skinny jeans jeans (such as these amazing Sinclair Rowan jeans in Moscow,) and sexy heels.
LOOK 3 – Military style can also be sleek, sexy, sophisticated and emulate the style of a simple, modern woman with an edge. Start with a highly tailored uniform jacket such as this gorgeous Improved blazer with zipper detail, and layer over a fitted shirt that is simple with a hit of masculinity. The key piece to this ensemble is the pants or jeans. Rich & Skinny’s cargo legging in Slick Black are one of the most talked about cargo pant right now. This jean will rock your fall wardrobe.
These are just a few ideas of how we see the military trend for our customers on BlueBee.com. Try one of these looks, or create one of your own by mixing and matching! You know that military will always be in style!

Neutral Sophistication at Milan Fashion Week
After London’s pretty prints, Milan was a refreshing wash of neutral shades and sophisticated cuts. Common colors included silver, mink, champagne, griege, and white. Designers from Bottega Veneta to Albino wowed us with how beautiful the neutral palette can be.
Hemlines were longer than London and while there were a lot of structured pieces and suits, we also loved the floatier cuts from the likes of Roberto Cavalli. Even the bolder shows such as Gucci and Prada used jewel colors rather than super bright.
What did we love?
The entirely white show from Dolce & Gabbana, the boyfriend look at DSquared2, stripes at Prada, and mustard prints at Etro.

Bedbugs! Yet another reason to shop online…
The bedbugs are running rampant this year!
Just today, Styleite and Racked reported that the little critters have stopped by the largest locations of Bloomingdales and Macys in NYC to say hello… and burrow in a shirt or two. Unfortunately, within the past few months, a variety of retail stores (including Hollister, Abercrombie, and Victoria’s Secret), corporate headquarters (American Express, Google, Elle magazine), and more (the Empire State building, a Times Square movie theater) have all been victims of the bedbug invasion.
Image via Styleite.com
A quick Twitter search for “bedbugs” unveiled the following humorous comments:
“I’m not going to the movies… because now in theaters everywhere…. Bedbugs.”
“This whole area just let out a collectively huge depressing sigh after seeing the company e-mail about bedbugs discovered 2 floors above us.”
“Check yr hotel bed 4 #bedbugs: Use hair dryer on part of bed for 30 secs. If there are bed bugs, they’ll surface!”
And..it’s not just a New York City phenomenon: the top five cities with bedbug incidents are NYC, Philadelphia, Detroit, Cinncinnati and Chicago.
So — my resolve? Regardless of where you are, shop online!
Yes, there is a minor chance the bedbugs are in the warehouses where items are packed/shipped, but it is much less likely. Most likely, customers within retail stores are unknowingly bringing the bugs in to the establishments on their clothing. Customers stop in the dressing room, undress and throw their jeans/shirt on the ground, at which time the bugs march into the carpet and around the store. Only to move on to the next customer and leave with them… pretty smart little rascals. An expert in this Bloomberg Businessweek article said, “They are taking up residence in people’s homes and because of that they are now traveling about throughout the day with people, going into atypical locations, such as movie theaters, retail establishments, hospitals, schools, day care centers, laundromats — all of the places where people travel during course of their day…”
It may be partially psychological, but I can say that I, for one, am avoiding movie theaters (yay for Netflix) and after purchasing a garment in a retail store, come home and throw it in my freezer for a bit (someone mentioned that as a trick to kill the bugs). But what I consider the most powerful avoidance is shopping online vs. in retail stores. Seems that these reporters from the Wall Street Journal agree. Rachel Dodes and Katie Rosman recently tweeted:
@racheldodes: I’ve been shopping online more.
@katierosman: My friend Anne–highly successful bizwoman–won’t buy clothes for fear of bedbugs.
Your thoughts? Are you transitioning to shopping online with greater frequency due to bedbugs?
