Day 4: Rebecca Taylor, Lela Rose, Thuy and more

Day 4  – it’s a rainy and gloomy one…  For Katrina’s outfit of the day, she and stylist PJ did some last minute mixing & matching to suit the weather.  She ended up wearing a Moschino bag and Valentino shoes found through Shop It To Me with a trench and blouse by Escada, and Genetic Denim jeans (“The James” — her favorite!).   On today’s agenda: shows from Lela Rose, Rebecca Taylor and Thuy, then hosting the PinkMemo/Thuy afterparty at Trump SoHo.

Katrina said, “I went a bit rogue today mixing pieces from a few different looks because it’s chilly and drizzly.”

As a happy start to brighten the beginning of her day, Katrina ran into her friend Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, the Lincoln Center’s Director of Fashion.  Katrina said, “Stephanie is the It-girl of Fashion Week. She is truly an inspiration and always has been. We worked at VOGUE together, and I even went to her wedding. She’s the real deal.”

She then started the day at the Lela Rose show:

After the Lela Rose show, it was time for typically also-feminine Rebecca Taylor.   Check out the scalloped, lacquered, dusty rose runway!

And, the final show that Katrina attended today was the Thuy (pronounced TWEE) show.  Here’s one shot, and then the finale!

Rebecca Minkoff Spring 2011 Fashion Week Presentation

After trudging through the rainy and chilly NYC weather today, I made it to the Rebecca Minkoff S/S 2011 presentation, which brought some sunshine to my spirit.  It was held in The Box at Lincoln Center.  Each of the four sides of  central platform in the middle of the room were lined by models, and guests were invited to circle the platform snapping photos and taking in the new styles.  Rebecca has certainly moved beyond the bags we all love, and also showcased a large # of apparel styles and her new shoe collection!

Here are some highlights:

Themes included tan/snakeskin colored clothing and bags, vibrant red looks splashed in amongst largely a sea of neutrals, and black/white graphic ensembles.

Popular blogger, Rumi Neely, from Fashion Toast was a guest model in a front & center location (that’s her in the tan dress with black booties).

The shoes were unique and many actually looked comfortable!  From booties to wedges to strappy heels, quite a variety could be worn not only in the spring/summer season, but year-round.

In terms of bags, in addition to the snakeskin and other animal-esque styles, there were a few varieties with piping on the edges (also seen in some of the brand’s recent advertisements).  A plethora of new silhouttes too  – even the reincarnation of the morning-after bag felt like a new twist!

Rebecca herself seemed just delightful (and delighted)!

All in all, Rebecca’s fans seemed to really enjoy the presentation, with quite an impressive # of women attending in RM clothing and handbags from previous seasons.

Day 3 of Fashion Week: Jam-packed!

It’s Day 3 of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week — an incredibly busy one for Katrina (with some AMAZING celeb interviews!).  We are in awe of her seemingly endless energy, especially after a late and exciting time hosting the Karen Millen event for Fashion’s Night Out.  Regardless, Katrina was up early and looking fabulous for another jam-packed day.  Here’s just a glimpse into a few of the many of today’s events:

Katrina kicked off the morning with the taping of a TV show segment about fall accessories, books, and gadgets.

Next up, she headed to Lincoln Center for a backstage interview with designer Prabal Gurung for CBS News…she even did costume change!  Katrina said, “The weather is significantly chillier than usual, so I’ve had to ask PJ to call in a bunch of jackets for layering. Last-minute fashion improvisation!”

Amongst today’s frenzy, Katrina interviewed none other than Rachel Zoe!!!  Rachel said she LOVED Prabal and that she is the president of his fan club.

And, as if that wasn’t enough for today, other events included the ADAM show, and the Mercedes-Benz cocktail party.

Day 2: Fashion Week

It’s Day 2 of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.  Here’s Katrina Szish about to walk out the door for a VERY jam-packed day. Today she’s wearing an Armand Basi jacket that she found via a Shop It To Me email with a Fabiola Arias skirt, McQueen bag, Giuseppe Zanotti shoes and Kenneth Jay Lane cuffs.   Lauren Whitworth did her hair and make-up, and her bag is packed with her Blueprint Cleanse juices.

Katrina’s Journey: Day 1 of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

As we mentioned, we are excited to be dressing TV Personality Katrina Szish for her various duties and events during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.  Here’s the scoop of where she went and what she wore today!

Katrina’s first event at Lincoln Center, the new venue for Fashion Week, was for Christian Siriano’s show.

Invitation to the Christian Siriano show

She was especially excited by the new “GPS” system that has been implemented.  Once you scan your barcode at a central kiosk, you receive your seating assignment (vs. waiting in line for someone to physically present you with this information).  It’s kind of like express check-in for boarding passes at the airport!

Barcode for fashion week

Katrina sent this picture to us and said, “Christian’s run-of-show and the new high-tech ticket system — you scan your barcode and it prints your seat number. Very Brave New World.”

And, to today’s events, Katrina work a beautiful Marc Jacobs dress and Moschino shoes.

Seems like a good wardrobe choice for Day 1!  She told us, ” The dress is a huge hit!!”

Sounds like tonight will consist of a Chanel cocktail party and more!  Stay tuned tomorrow.

Fashion Week: Behind-The-Scenes with Katrina Szish

The Spring 2011 Collections make their big debuts in NYC this week as the venerable “who’s who” of the fashion world descends on Lincoln Center.  For the folks who comprise that elite group, we imagine it’s quite vexing to figure out what to wear to the shows and that lots of energy goes into making a week’s worth of memorable style choices.

To get a closer look, we’re excited to be “dressing” TV personality and correspondent Katrina Szish for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, and turning our blog into her daily style diary.  We’ll highlight why Katrina made the style choices she did, where she’s going in each outfit, and more.

Katrina Szish HeadshotAbove: Katrina all glammed up during Fashion Week in February

Though she always looks like a million bucks, Katrina is one of the savviest shoppers around.  Already a fan of Shop It To Me—we turned her loose in Salemail to pick items that personally spoke to her and that she would be excited about wearing to this year’s Spring collections.  You’re in on our secret — few at the shows will know that she scooped up many of the pieces in her wardrobe on sale!

Working with stylist PJ Pascual, the two went wild snapping up designer pieces from TheOutNet, Endless, ASOS, Bluefly and others.  They are mixing in many of Katrina’s own favorite things to create looks that perfectly express her signature style.

pj pascualAbove: Katrina’s stylist PJ Pascual, at their pre-Fashion Week fitting, holding up a Marc Jacobs dress (through Shop It To Me).  PJ says, “What women need to realize is that the trends are just guidelines. You have to choose what looks good on your body. Women should ask these questions to themselves: What color suits them? What silhouette fits them? Fashion is YOU.”

On our blog we’ll post Katrina’s daily style choices, outtakes from her favorite fashion moments of the day and take you along for the ride as she goes behind the scenes.

For your first sneak peek, here are a few shots taken when Katrina and PJ met to put it all together in preparation for the upcoming shows:

Connect The (Designer) Dots…

The Spring 2011 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week season kicks off this Thursday in New York. What does this mean, dear reader? Simply that models will issue their standard Clydesdale clomp down the runway, fabulous celebrity-laden parties will commence, and top designers such as Michael Kors, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Alexander Wang will present their latest offerings to the world at large.

In honor of this semi-annual occasion, Shop It To Me looked at the designer preferences of more than 1 million women to unveil which labels stand side-by-side.  We figured that with the occasion of new collections being unveiled in New York this week, it was a good time to juxtapose these designers with the other names they are most often correlated with.

Since a woman’s shopping experience never ends with just one click of the mouse, what else are they most likely to peruse?  For instance, if someone likes DVF, what other designers are they also likely drawn to?

Perhaps expectedly, Marc Jacobs is an all-around favorite.  Those who were inclined to seek out a pretty little something by a luxury brand such as Proenza Schouler or a more contemporary line like Tracy Reese are also highly prone to search for sales on items from Jacobs. In fact, he ranked next in line for most of the designers we studied including 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, Diane von Furstenberg, Jason Wu, Nanette Lepore, Rebecca Taylor, and Tory Burch. And while one would imagine that Jacobs’ top referrer would be someone like, oh say Louis Vuitton (which he also helms), it is interestingly not. That honor goes to BCBG.

Check out the list below for little game of what we call designer connect five.

designer overview

How to read the chart above: Among women who selected each designer listed on the left hand side, the colored dots represent the other top 5 most popularly selected labels.

A few takeaways –

  • Those who love 3.1 Phillip Lim are also likely to prefer Marc Jacobs, 7 for All Mankind, Chloe, Diane von Furstenberg, Prada.
  • Fans of Alexander Wang won’t stop there. Their love of luxury also extends to Marc Jacobs, Chloe, Prada, Miu Miu, and Gucci.
  • BCBG-ites are also keen on Kenneth Cole, Diesel, Calvin Klein and Banana Republic.

  • Wrap dress queen Diane von Furstenberg also attracts a varied group including those who love Marc Jacobs, BCBG, Banana Republic, Prada, and Michael Kors.
  • Devotees of DKNY are also likely to fave Nine West, Guess, Victoria’s Secret, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein.
  • Gals who love Betsey Johnson’s fabulous frocks also enjoy BCBG, Steve Madden, Juicy Couture, Marc Jacobs and Victoria’s Secret.

  • The sleek sophistication of those who love Milly is similarly exhibited in their passion toward styles from Diane Von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, Theory, Nanette Lepore and Tory Burch.
  • Tory Burch aficionadas also veer toward Marc Jacobs, BCBG, J.Crew, 7 For All Mankind and Banana Republic.
  • For those who love the work of the boys over at Proenza Schouler, another male designer, Zac Posen also popped into the top five.
  • And, finally, Nanette Lepore fans enjoy brands that are work appropriate: Marc Jacobs, BCBG, DVF, Theory, and 7 for All Mankind.
