Tracy Reese Fall 2010 – Femininity With an Edge

Yesterday I attended the Tracy Reese Fall 2010 show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and was amazed by it’s mood-boosting effect. Not only were the designs lovely, but the floral backdrop gave off a fantasyland feel, the music was upbeat, and the models were actually smiling!

Tracy Reese’s designs are known for their femininity, and what made this season stand out to me was the “girl power” feel the looks gave off – with fringe jackets, suede pants, and oversided scarves. While she did incorporate a refreshing dose of something different, there were still enough floral frocks and blue and pink pastels to make me want to throw a tea party.

Like what you see (and how could you not)? Add Tracy Reese to your preferences! Login to your Shop It To Me account, click edit brands, hit the “all brands” tab, select Tracy Reese, and hit save. Voila – your Salemail just got more stylish!

Ports 1961 – The Fall/Winter 2010 Collection

Being in New York at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has been quite a thrill. Yesterday I headed to Bryant Park for the Ports 1961 show, and here are a few of my favorite looks from the Fall/Winter 2010 collection:

They did flowy, they did structured, and they nailed every look. I loved the femininity of the collection and fabulous accessories were like the cherry on top of a sundae – from pink tights and killer platform shoes to aviator caps taming enormous curls. The setting was divine and combined with the fashion it made for a lovely presentation.

LBD not cutting it? We have cocktail dresses for the cold!

While cocktail dresses tend to be required year-round, the weather is not always permitting. Let’s face it – a tiny strapless dress (though maybe adorable) just isn’t enough in, say, a blizzard. Even beneath your warmest winter coat! For this reason, I’ve been loving the fabulous variety of fun and functional long-sleeved mini dresses in Salemail lately. Here are a few of my favorites from ShopBop:

1. Tibi Draped Jeweled Dress (50% off) 2. Alice + Olivia Cutout Sleeve Dress (30% off) 3. Alice + Olivia Layered Cutout Dress (50% off) 4. Helmut Lang Powder Print Dress (30% off)

Do yourself a favor and snag one of these adorable frocks while we’ve got ‘em! The additional layer over your arms will go a long way in arctic temperatures, and it’s not like you’ll be sacrificing style. For extra warmth, just pile on the layers (think ankle boots, tights, fuzzy scarves, gloves, and a winter coat). Stay frostbite-free, fashionistas!

Nighttime Makeup: Three Alternatives to the Smoky Eye

Whether you are attending a special event, or going out for a night on the town, pretty makeup is a must. We’re certainly fans of the smoky eye, but there are several alternatives to this look that can be just as lovely (and it’s important to mix it up!). Make Me Blushhh is here to show us a few other makeup options to help us stand out in a crowd.

The smoky eye always comes to mind whenever we think of nighttime makeup, the look is usually paired with nude lips to give off that sultry smouldering look that many find attractive. As much as I love a sexy smoky eye, I also love all the other options. Here are three ideas for your next glam night out:

1. The Classic Glam:

You really can’t go wrong with this look! It features neutral eyes accented with bold red lips that scream siren. This look reminds us that you don’t always have to pack on the eye makeup to stand out — other parts of your face should have a spotlight too.

2. The Natural Goddess

Who said that looking glam is all about color? Looking natural and glowy is every bit as gorgeous. Simple eye makeup played up with dark eyeliner to bring out the eyes is matched with natural-looking lips creating a look that is appropriate for day and night.

3. The Flirty Girly

The smoky effect is not the only way to dress up your eyes — big lashes draw some serious attention to your peepers. If you’re not blessed with naturally long, fluttery lashes, don’t be afraid to try some false lashes. They’re a ton of fun for a night out.

Do you have a favorite amongst these looks?

Stylishly Lounging

On those lazy Sundays, where you  just want to feel comfy wherever you go, slip on some loungewear and relax. If you want some ideas for stylish loungewear, Erin from beauty:design:life is here to help. You shouldn’t have to sacrifice style for comfort! Be sure to also check out her blog as she shares colors, photos, fashion, technology, innovations, beauty, design, and life that inspires her and may inspire you as well!

I have to confess: I have very strong feelings against wearing loungewear in public, and I generally don’t do it.  But lately I’ve been tempted to break my self-imposed rule, because I pretty much live in sweatpants when I’m at home, and changing out of them just for a quick Target run (especially in winter) is starting to seem downright crazy.  To compromise, I’ve found some chic (and affordable) loungewear that will give the impression that you put effort into your look, even if you just rolled out of bed.

To make loungewear look stylish, focus on how it fits.  Avoid the baggy hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants and go for a slimmer fit.  I’m a big fan of yoga pants, which are just as comfortable as sweats but look a lot more pulled together.  Tuck them into boots in winter for an extra sleek look.

You can even trick people into believing that you’re wearing denim by mimicking the color, cut, and details of jeans, without sacrificing any of the comfort.

Athleta Bettona Pant

If you’re looking for a looser fit, similar rules apply.  Make sure the shape of the pant is flattering, and look for a thin fabric to cut down on unnecessary bulk.

Victoria's Secret Boyfriend Pant

When pairing a top with your stylish sweats, skip the concert t-shirt or college sweatshirt and stick with the theme of lightweight fabrics and slim fits.

Old Navy Three-Quarter Sleeve Lounge Hoodie

I love Old Navy for their basics: comfortable, affordable, and available in a rainbow of colors.

Old Navy Lightweight Scoop-Neck Tee

A long boyfriend cardigan is perfect with yoga pants – so effortlessly chic.

In sum, when choosing loungewear, go for a slim fit, look for lightweight fabrics, and choose tops you could also wear with jeans.  You’ll be stylish and comfortable!
