2010: The Year of the Curvy Woman

Will this year be the year of the curvy woman? Although it’s only been a month into the new year, it’s looking like it so far. First with V Magazine’s The Size Issue: Curves Ahead, featuring plus-sized models and a side by side comparison of the stereotypical sized model and a plus-sized model wearing the same outfit.

Then with Asos launching their plus-size clothing line, Asos Curve, featuring fun, flirty, casual and classic styles.

And now with British plus-size fashion brand Evans‘ new Vogue-inspired ad campaign, Evans presents plus sized women in casual white t-shirts and jeans, very relaxed and beautiful with a nice vintage feel (stylelist)

There is no doubt that curves are ahead and there will be more campaigns catered to plus-sized women. This is only the beginning of the year and with 11 more months in 2010, we’ll just have to wait and see what the fashion industry plans to do next in the plus-sized realm. Any predictions?

W Hotel Hires a Fashion Director

Yesterday was the last day of the our recent W Hotel/Bliss Spa giveaway, and we’ll choose the winner on Feb 16th.

Speaking of the W Hotel — they just announced that they’re hiring a Fashion Director!

The WSJ reported that the W Hotel will make the grand announcement next week, on Feb 11th, to kick off New York Fashion Week.  They are hiring stylist Amanda Ross to amp their style credibility, hob-nob with designers, Hollywood stars, and the fashion community, and help to style the rooms/hotel lobbies/staff, and more.  Basically, to make sure the W Hotels are top-notch in terms of design and fashion.

We’re delighted that one of our lucky members will be winning an escape at the fashionable W Hotel, courtesy of Shop It To Me!  Stay tuned to see who that is…

Spring Break Fashion

Chasing Louboutin LogoIt’s almost time to get away from this cold, rainy weather and go soak up some sun. Jenn from Chasing Louboutin is here to tell you about the spring trends, so you can relax in style on land and sea during this spring break. Be sure to check out her blog and be a part of her adventure as she feeds her love for designer fashion on a budget.

Whether you are heading to Cabo with your girlfriends, taking a short tropical vacation with your man, or cruising along the Caribbean with your family, one thing’s for sure: you are looking for a break from the jackets, scarves, and layered looks of the winter season. Thankfully, this spring season offers some refreshing trends. When it comes time to packing for that weeklong getaway, consider putting some of these items, all from Shop It To Me brands, in your suitcase.

Stripes

J crew striped top

Get funky and pair this J. Crew striped top with red shorts, keep it more subdued and beachy with destroyed denim, or pair with white shorts for a crisp and classic look.

Rompers

Free People Silk Romper

Slip into this silky romper from Free People. It’s perfect for strolling down the boardwalk, ice cream cone in hand, or it can even double as a swimsuit cover-up. Versatility is key when packing that suitcase.

Whites

White Express Dress

Celebrities have been showing us lately that all-white dresses do not have to be restricted to weddings. Yes, white is a tricky fabric. To hide pantylines and other unwanted sights, opt for a thicker fabric. This white dress from Express is particularly eye-catching.

Swimwear

J crew swimwear

On spring break, your swimsuit may very well be the piece of clothing you will wear most of the time. That means splurge on this piece! This season offers 1950s and pinup-girl inspired cuts, which are very flattering for shapely bodies. Have fun with bright colors, or stick to the always-chic all-black swimsuit.

Cover-up

Victoria Secret Cover UP

A necessity on beach vacations is the swim cover-up.  This Victoria’s Secret cover-up not only comes in an array of colors, but it is also very stylish and affordable.

Neutrals

Asos Dress

Khakis, creams, and neutral colors are popping up all over the place this season. Incorporate it into your spring wardrobe with a sandstorm blazer for chilly nights, a jumpsuit, or my personal favorite, this dress from Asos.

Which of these spring trends is your favorite?

Shoes for the Ladies – Inspired by the Boys!

First it was the oversized white button-downs. Then came the boyfriend jeans and blazers. Now women’s shoes are following the man-style movement!

From loafers and oxfords to ankle boots – we’re seeing more and more shoe styles inspired by the boys. Here are a few of our favorites from Sale Spot (which FYI is overflowing with options):

1. Jeffrey Campbell Zip Lace Boot – $149.99(Was $298.00) 2. Deena & Ozzy Perforated Oxford – $49.99(Was $68.00) 3. Jeffrey Campbell Berry Oxford Bootie – $124.99(Was $158.00) 4. American Apparel’s New Promotion: Bad@$$ or Asinine?

Want your derriere to grace the next American Apparel ad? The retailer is “on the hunt for the best bottom in the world!”.

If there was anyone out there who felt American Apparel’s promotions weren’t risqué enough before, perhaps the new campaign will change your mind. The retailer is hosting a hot-or-not style poll on their website where eager bum model hopefuls can post pictures of their rear, outfitted in American Apparel clothing, to be rated and commented on by viewers. The top 10 contestants will each win an American Apparel gift bag worth $300 and be eligible to become an American Apparel fanny model. (Mind you, even the top-rated contestant is not guaranteed a spot.)

What do you think of the new American Apparel campaign? (Warning — you’ll see a lot of rumps.) Should critics butt out, or is it asinine?

Grammy Awards Style – our Favorites from the Red Carpet!

Though the red carpet looks from last night’s Grammy Awards were less impressive than we’d hoped, there were still a handful of designs that caught our eye. We noticed a few risk-takers (Lady Gaga, Ciara, and Britney Spears, to name a few), and to our disappointment a few more who played it entirely too safe. Really, can you imagine a better opportunity to get dolled up and flaunt some funky fashion?

Four of our favorites were Leah Michele, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, and Rihanna (clockwise from top left).

Who were your favorites from the red carpet? We’d love your thoughts!
