Big Week for Justin Timberlake

William Rast almost seems nearly synonymous with denim/leather.  Not for long! California Apparel News reports that in 2011, Justin Timberlake’s William Rast line will debut two eyewear brands: William Rast Eyewear (sunglasses and optical) and William Rast Racing Eyewear (sportier styles and more technical features).

Photo courtesy of All The Rage

The Chief Exec of People’s Revolution (who produces the collection) said, “Justin [Timberlake] wears glasses now, so some of the [William Rast Eyewear] inspiration will come from him… Inspiration for the Racing collection will come less from Timberlake himself and more from William Rast’s ties to Indy-car racing.”

In other JT news, he was named Man of the Year by Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals.  The nation’s oldest undergraduate drama club will be honoring Justin Timberlake on campus this week for being “one of pop culture’s most influential entertainers”.

Maybe Justin will wear the William Rast eyewear during his visit to look more studious :)

Be Pretty, Shiny, and Sparkly on Valentine’s Day!

Pretty, Shiny, Sparkly LogoWhether you have a hot date or you’re flying solo, standing out on Valentine’s day is a must! Kristina from Pretty, Shiny, Sparkly is here to show us a few dresses that are perfect for Hallmark’s favorite holiday. Check out her blog to get your fix on all things pretty, shiny, and sparkly!

This Valentine’s Day (or S.A.D., Singles Awareness Day depending on your relationship with that chubby cherub we hate to love), I challenge you. I challenge you to stay away from red, and stand out. Drape yourself in shimmery fabrics with delicate details, like one-shoulder bows or soft ruffles. Do you really want to be the 30th girl in the restaurant (S.A.D.-ers: bar) wearing a red dress?

You have been hereby challenged. Let’s see what you make of it!

D&G Dolce & Gabbana Ruffle-embellished silk dress

D&G Ruffle Embellished Silk Bustier Dress, Net-A-Porter.com, $745

It’s the delicate ruffles and soft color that provide a nice backdrop for the pop of bold fuschia in this attention-getting yet classy little piece by D&G.

D&G Jersey One Shoulder Dress

D&G Jersey One Shoulder Dress, Nordstrom, $535

Another romantic dress from D&G, but completely different in every way. And fabulous. I love the subtle elements like the uneven, flirty folds at the hemline, the drape of the pleats and folds across the chest, and that big gorgeous bow that’s not overdone, as so many are.

Nicole Miller Truly Madly Deeply Dress

Truly, Madly, Deeply Dress, Nicole Miller, $420

Nicole Miller’s aptly-named “Truly Madly Deeply” dress will help you on your path to love. New love, or just love rekindled: this feminine, curve-hugging sheath is extremely flattering to those of us who overindulged a little during the holidays.

Black and Rose Cocktail Dresses by Sue Wong for Walt Disney Signature

Black Rose Cocktail Dress by Sue Wong, edressme, $415

If you follow my blog you know of my serious obsession with sparkly things. Sequins are, by definition, an addiction. But if loving them is wrong, I don’t want to be right. I’ll spare you the rhyme I considered writing about in regards to this dress’s designer, but it involved “wrong” and “Wong” (as in Sue Wong, for the fabulous new Walt Disney Signature collection). Hello Wonderland! Call me Alice.

Alice+Olivia Asymmetrial Dress with Flutter Sleeves

Alice + Olivia Asymmetrical Dress with Flutter Sleeves, Shopbop, $269.50

For a younger, fresher look, slip on this Alice + Olivia asymmetrical dress with flutter sleeves. I recommend adding some brightly-colored opaque tights, and some bootie platforms. Don’t pick ones that go as high in the ankle as the model wears above: it will make your legs appear shorter than they are, and this dress is made for showing those stems off!

You have your challenge: should you choose to accept it, please let us know what you wear and how it worked out for you!

A Few Must-Haves for a Night Out on the Town!

Heading out for a night on the town? Make sure you’re prepared! Natalie from The Frugalista is here to suggest a few items to toss in your clutch before leaving the house. Be sure to check out her blog on how to live the frugal and fabulous life!

These days, I like to think of myself as a reformed party girl, but I don’t think that’s exactly accurate. I still like to click my heels on South Beach for a night or two. Once a social butterfly, always a social butterfly. Here are a few of my tips to make your nightlife turn out right.

1) Pre-party, put on bronzer: Nothing says “I’m stepping out” like a good dusting of shimmery (not shiny) powder about the collar bone, upper cheek and shoulders. Don’t leave home without it – on your body!

2) Clear deodorant in the car: Sometimes we don’t put on deodorant until after we pull that slinky dress over our body, and then forget to apply it at all. Keep a stash of antiperspirant in your car glove compartment because musty is not sexy.

3) Before you slip on those stilettos, if you have a purse that’s bigger than a clutch, be sure to add fold able flip flops, such as Pocketflops. The night may be long and nothing looks worse than a woman in a pair of shoes that hurt.

4) Do not forget your lip gloss in your purse. Given today’s point-and-click lifestyle, chances are pictures of your night will end up on Facebook or Twitter. The least you can do is have your mouth glossed to pouty perfection.

5) Also, bring facial powder. Only thing that should be shiny is your hair. You are not Rudolph the Red Nosed-Reindeer. Don’t let your nose shine.

6) Tic Tacs: Now I’m vintage with the Tic Tacs, but any old minty breath mint will do. Rounds of drinks breed halitosis. Don’t be a victim!

7) Neck bling: Wear a medallion necklace or something else that’s eye catching. If the necklace hangs right over the chest, even better!

Second-Hand clothing = Beautiful Art!

PSFK drew our attention to a phenomenal recent project by scultpor Derick Melander, who created a 3,500 pound+ sculpture, all from used clothing!  It’s quite beautiful art.  Carefully folded to a precise dimension, the clothes are sorted by color wave and stacked to create amazing works.

Photos courtesy of PSFK

The video below is fascinating, and highlights the process of how he mobilized 30 volunteers to help construct a 5 foot x 5 foot sculpture.  My personal favorite line is when a little girl asks, “Have you ever found underwear?!”, to which the volunteer kindly responds, “Yeah, there’s a special pile for underwear”.  So cute!

Movie Review: “When In Rome”

Hi readers! I’m Kelly and I am one of the newest additions to the team here in San Francisco (along with the wonderful Angel and Jason)!

I had the opportunity to see When In Rome with some of our San Francisco Shop It To Me members this week. It was great to meet everyone who came out – I hope you all enjoyed the movie!

While I was hesitant to expect much from the latest chick flick, I really enjoyed the funny,  though slightly corny, romantic comedy. The adorable Kristin Bell and gorgeous Josh Duhamel made a captivating onscreen pair, as much as she tries to resist him. Much of the movie takes place in Rome, so the movie setting is equally easy on the eyes.

I was thrilled with the cast! There were so many surprise appearances from some of my favorite actors, including Mel (Kristen Schaal) from Flight of the Conchords, Napoleon (Jon Heder) from Napoleon Dynamite, “GOB” (Will Arnette) from Arrested Development and Anjelica Huston (more movies than I can count) to name a few. (I don’t want to spoil them all). The quirky supporting roles and unexpected guest appearances really helped make the movie. I have to say, there were more than a few times that the entire theater burst into laughter.

My verdict: It is definitely a chick flick: Beautiful young girl searching for love with a to-die -for job in NYC- check; Sexy heartthrob who wants to sweep her off her feet – you betcha;  A wardrobe to lust after – absolutely. While When In Rome does have all the elements of your typical “girls night out” movie, its lighthearted take on love is a refreshing escape from the real world.

As a special perk for our members – If you are living in the San Francisco area, we are giving away FREE tickets to an advanced screening happening this Wednesday, January 27!!!! (Extra perk because the movie doesn’t come out until Friday the 29th!)  Just post a blog response if you are interested and we can set up tickets for you and a friend. Limited quantities, so first come, first served!

Rosa Chá Fall/Winter 2010 – Where the Beach Meets the Boudoir

There is something so exciting about coming across a new and inspiring designer. Recently, amidst scrolling through online lookbooks and runway photos, I happened upon Rosa Chá – a Brazilian line that I was less familiar with, but totally wowed by. I love the way this particular label has taken swimwear and turned it into something that’s way more fashion than functionality.

Both the arctic temperatures we’ve been experiencing and my love for Rosa Chá make me wish I had hopped on a plane to São Paulo Fashion Week (January 17th-22nd)! Presented by Chanel Iman on January 17th, the label was shown for the first time in Brazil since creative director Alexandre Herchcovitch stepped on – adding a fresh and innovative spin.

While Rosa Chá is primarily a swimwear line, Herchcovitch is in tune with the season – incorporating dresses, leggings, catsuits, and outerwear.

“This is a fundamental moment for us to be able to use the brand’s DNA in a larger number of pieces that go from fitness, spa, and the beach, to outwear,” says Herchcovitch, who signed on in 2009 when founder Amir Salama left the label.

The light pink and bright florals combined with lace detailing delivers the perfect dose of femininity-with-an-edge, from hat to toe!

Click here to view the complete Rosa Chá Fall/Winter 2010 collection. And stay tuned for more 2010 Fashion Week coverage!
