Bloomingdale’s Getting Into Outlet Business

Aside from shopping online, some of the best discounts on designer duds can be found at outlet centers.  Favorites include Off Fifth with 52 locations (Saks’ outlet), Last Call with 28 locations (Neiman Marcus’s outlet), and Nordstrom Rack with 69 locations.  It’s been announced that now Bloomingdale’s is getting into the outlet business!

According to the Wall Street Journal, the first four Bloomingdale’s outlet locations will open this summer/fall.  Two will be located in Florida (Miami and Sunrise, Fla), along with Paramus, N.J., and Woodbridge, Va.  The new stores will offer both apparel and accessories for men, women and kids— supposedly a mix of Bloomingdale’s regular stores clearance items and items intended to be sold only at the outlet stores.  More locations will be announced throughout 2011.

On another note, Stylelist reports that Nordstrom Rack is opening a location in NYC’s Union Square late this spring as well.  Happy outlet shopping!

First Spring: Prada’s New Short Film

Hi Shop It To Me blog readers! I’m Angel, the latest addition to Shop It To Me. You’ll be hearing from me in the next coming weeks on the blog, and I’m excited to hear your thoughts and reactions! Enjoy!

If you read the New York Times online, you may have been distracted not only by the news, but by the Prada takeover of the homepage promoting their new short film, First Spring by Yang Fudong, featuring their spring 10/11 menswear. As described on Prada’s website, this black and white film is inspired by the Chinese adage “A whole year’s work depends on a good start in the spring.”

As the internet becomes more and more of an important medium to engage people, Prada is definitely putting their foot out there and changing up ways to advertise their fashion. They are definitely starting their spring season well and I can’t wait to see what they have in mind next. Check out their whimsical film that makes you want to fly in style on their website, and think about how spring can be a good start for you too!

Stella McCartney, Sue Wong + Disney?

Disney + Designer Fashion may sound odd upon first glance.  But hearing the details and seeing photos of recent collaborations may lead you to think twice.

To tie-in with Tim Burton’s upcoming screen adaptation of “Alice In Wonderland” this spring (starring Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway), Disney has partnered to create high-end apparel and accessories lines.  Jewelry designer Tom Binns along with Stella McCartney are behind the charm bracelets and necklaces, and dress designer Sue Wong is the visionary behind the gowns.

Style.com says, “…we’re betting that Wong’s fans will head straight for the goods inspired by the film’s anti-heroines, the dueling Red Queen (pictured) and White Queen.”  Priced at $320-609, the dresses will be available at Saks, Neiman Marcus, and Bloomingdales.  Look for them in Bloomingdale’s store windows too!  We’re pretty impressed with the level of style, and excited to see these dresses up close and personal.  Read more details about the collaboration and behind-the-scenes of how Sue Wong and Disney came to be!

Turn Your Old Sweater Into A New Scarf!

Have an old sweater you just can’t let go of? Whether it used to be your mom’s, or you love the pattern but it just doesn’t fit, there’s now a solution to help your sweater serve a purpose!

At Rekn.it, this month sweater = scarf. All you have to do is mail in your old, useless sweater and before long it will be returned to you in a whole new (yet still warm and fuzzy) form! While in January they’re sticking to scarves, new items will be re-knitted monthly. You can even vote on what you’d like to see next (beanie, iPod case, gloves, etc.)!

Great inspiration to start clearing out your closet for the new year. After all, you’ve got to make room for all those items you want from Salemail!

Personal Style for 2010: Wearing Wild Accessories to Work

workchic logoStyle doesn’t have to be work. Browse casual to business outfits on Workchic to get ideas on how to look fashionable even when you’re working. You can also find fun tips and tricks on how to look professional, feminine and chic at Workchic’s blog. Leave your work at work!

On the weekends do you love wearing metal studded leather cuffs with your denim? Hot pink tights under your skirts?  Many of us work in professions where the office environment is more conservative then our own personal style.  Today we want to take a look at high-impact accessories and identify which ones you can wear to the office.

Some of us just love color, from neon to the perfect shade of pink. We can’t help but add it to our outfits. You don’t need to lose this signature, just tone it down. Try a traditional shoe, with a pop of color.  We found this pair below in grey tweed with taxi cab yellow piping.  Since you don’t carry your handbag all day, your wallet can be a great place for impact.  This Kate Spade wallet is secure with a zip-around closure. The Lucky Brand hobo bag pops any outfit in a fun and vibrant iris hue.

Edgy punk can be harder to pull off but there are also subtle places to incorporate this look. Try a scarf with chain link details. This one has reptile print as well.  There are many options when it comes to leather cuffs.  Softer details can still make an impact. We love this Rebecca Minkoff style in cream. For feminine edge try mixing chains with pearls.

Adding glitz and glamour is one of the top trends, featuring sequins and oversized jewelry. We played up these details during the holidays but you can also carry them into the New Year.  Look for styles with small accents around the neckline or down the placket like this yellow cardigan. As for accessories, try statement necklaces with more basic blouses. You can also work in a skinny metallic belt for that extra hint of shine.  Never underestimate your shoes when featuring a trend; this style has a shimmering stud layout over the toe.

At Workchic we get asked all the time how to incorporate personal style into a work wardrobe. Accessories are a great way to do this.  Its 2010 — look chic, professional, and exude your own personal style for the New Year. Happy Shopping!
