Color Your Own Dress!
Ever wanted to make your own clothes, but don’t consider yourself a talented fashion designer? Your wishes just came true!
We learned of this color-in dress from Fashion Saved My Life.
You can buy the dress and the textile markers together from the Netherlands by clicking here. At 238 Euro ($341), it’s a bit of a splurge — but an experience and outfit all in one!
How cool would it be to see a lineup of people in the same dress, each with their own take on the color pattern?!

The Price of Designer Denim in 2010
As I’ve read my Shop It To Me emails recently, I’ve found absolutely amazing deals on designer denim. For instance, James jeans from $176 to $88 and Joe’s Jeans from $159 to $111.30. I almost forgot that designer jeans can cost upwards of $300 when at regular price!
This led me to question what will happen to the price of designer denim in the year ahead. I tend to believe that the days of jeans at over-the-top prices are over, and there will be more affordable options to consider.
Back in October, an article by Eric Wilson in the New York Times shared, “The $300 pair of designer jeans is now, courtesy of the recession, the $200 pair of designer jeans. “It was all just a fad,” said Jeff Rudes, a founder of the hot-denim-label-du-jour J Brand Jeans and an astute observer of the suspiciously inflated prices of fashion’s most eternally reinvented staple. Like any commodity that becomes overpriced, there eventually comes a market correction. And denim’s day of reckoning was long overdue.”
However, evidence, seems to point both ways — and I can’t determine if 2010 denim prices will continue to drop or instead creep back up:
- Online, Barney’s CO-OP currently offers no regular price denim for under $150, aside from leggings…
- Bloomingdales.com has a section of their site dedicated to “denim under $150″ but less than 48 styles are included, compared to nearly 300 in their overall denim selection.
- On Shopbop.com, around 70 out of the 532 pairs of denim were under $150, however the vast majority of these were denim shorts, leggings, or on sale.
- Nordstrom.com seems to tip the scale, with only 100 styles priced over $200, and over 400 styles under $200 price point.
Which way do you think denim pricing will go in 2010?

Glamorous Makeup Tips for the New Year!
Was one of your New Years resolutions to get more glam this year? There’s no better way than with bright red lips. Nubia from Nubia’s Nonsense is here to help you master this timeless look. Be sure to check out her blog covering personal style, trends, articles, beauty and DIY projects.
The New Year is here, time to look glitzy and glamorous for all those winter parties!
When determining your makeup, an important thing to know is what outfit you are wearing.
My main recommendation is RED LIPS. Not only do they make your teeth look whiter, but they scream glamorous. Think Marilyn Monroe – Red is a classic in my eyes.
For a celebration I would recommend red lips with either smoky eyes or neutral colors. Below are a few steps for earth tone colors I used with red lips.
- The first thing I did was try to even out my skin with my Bare Minerals concealer.
- Secondly I applied a layer of white eye shadow on both lids. This also works as a highlighter (Physicians Formula)
- Third I started to add a brown around the outer end of my lid. The key is to try to blend nicely.
- My fourth step was applying my pencil eye liner (Physicians Formula)
- My fifth step was using my L’Oreal liquid eye liner to create a cat eye. The trick to this is to be confident and have a steady hand. Slightly go upward at the end of your eye. I also applied my L’Oreal Mascara.
- My 6th step was to apply some my Bare Minerals blush lightly on my upper cheek bone.
- My 7th step was to apply a bit of MAC brow set on my eyebrows. I prefer this over a pencil you just brush it through your brow hair.
- Lastly I applied my red lip gloss. If you have small lips to make them look plumper you can apply a lip liner before applying the lipstick or gloss. (N.Y.C)
*If you don’t wear red lips and prefer a lighter gloss, add glittery eye shadow for a plumper look
Then tah dah! You should be looking pretty fabulous at this point. You can go even more neutral with the red lips.
I wish you all a marvelous New Year!

How to wear sequins at the office: Can it be done?
We all love a little sparkle, but it’s important to keep in mind that dressing like a disco ball likely isn’t going to fly at the office. Katherine from KittyMarie is here to show us how to do sequins right! Be sure to check out her blog – from the perspective of one girl in search of lessons on life, love, and the pursuit of good design.
Like anything delightfully sinful, a glass of expensive wine or a rich chocolate dessert, sequins are best when used in moderation.
Certainly sparkle is appropriate for a fabulous holiday party or night spent drinking Cosmos at a club, but for every day, remain understated, especially when at the office. You wouldn’t want to blind the top clients while giving your stellar presentation on the latest sales figures, now would you?
Use sequins sparingly. Accessories are particularly appropriate places to insert a little glam into an ensemble. Even those required to wear a uniform to work can add a personal touch to the outfit with some earring bling, like these Obey Sequin Earrings in 18k gold for $26.
Not recommended, of course, if you work around small children or large criminals.
If you prefer a flair for the dramatic, a Mini Sequin Gold Scarf can do the trick, like this one for $20 by Luxe and Lavish on Etsy.
A boring old black suit can be jazzed up easily with some sparingly sequined heels. We’re not talking platform glitter bombs, just a little elegance and shine. Try this pair of Caparros Elan Sequined Ruffle Sandals for $54.95. They come in gold, silver, white, and ivory.

Finally, for the utmost sequin bang for your buck if you are feeling adventurous, wear this J. Crew Stardust Pencil Skirt for $118. Available in silver and copper, it is made out of silk and microsequins. Paired with a simple blouse and set of heels, you will make a definite statement without screaming “Will dance for money.”
Your own judgment is the best measurement when sizing up a sequined accessory. If you think your boss would either: A. Laugh hysterically and request a lap dance; B. Frown, ask for your TPS reports, and move your office to the basement; or C. Point toward the unemployment office, you might be better off skipping the sparkling piece. But if you wear them properly, sequins in the office will get you noticed in all the right ways.

The Best Stylish Brands for Moms!
Ladies, being a mom does not mean you can no longer rock the stylish clothing you love! Actually, it’s the opposite. Time to show off the fact that you can still look great, even on a tight (and sometimes downright chaotic) schedule! Our Trendsetter, Momologie, is here to share some of the best fashionable brands for all you hard workin’ but fabulous moms. Be sure to check out their free daily newsletter packed with fresh ideas and inspiration devoted to helping you live family life to the fullest!
I have always loved fashion… And, get excited for the new fashion trends for each season. Since being a mom, this passion hasn’t changed. What has changed for me are the styles I choose. I purchase items that I can wear comfortably when I’m running around with my son or can be dressed up for a business meeting.
Images via J Brand and J. Crew
J Brand makes amazing stylish jeans that are very comfortable. I’m a fan of the skinny jean and jean leggings. J Brand jeans are perfect for the park, a playdate or running errands with your kids. I wear these jeans with a fancier top for an evening out with my husband.
J. Crew offers stylish, affordable t’s, shirts, and sweaters that are perfect to complete your daily outfit as a mom. The J. Crew accessories are even better! I can’t get enough of their jewelry, especially the necklaces.
James Perse t’s are a must have. I love layering them under sweaters in the wintertime.
Marc Jacobs is my favorite. His fabrics and designs are fun and comfy. A MJ shirt paired with a pair of jeans, flats or boots is my ideal “mommy” outfit.
Remember, even as mom, fashion does have priority over function.

A Treat for your Feet
New Years Eve is so close I can almost taste it. And with that perfect pair of stilettos comes…limping at the end of the night. Since comfy-shoe vending machines don’t seem to be hitting the US yet, some prior planning is required to save your toes from the long walk home.
The latest option? Packing a pair of Tieks. They’re billed as “full-time flats that fit in your purse”. Prices start at $110, but what’s more — they’re on sale. Right now they’re 30% off with code “TakeTieks”. They come in lots of different colors and actually look cute enough to wear even without a shoe emergency!
