Your feet are your friends – treat them to more than a manicure this winter! Maybe you aren’t ready to splurge on a pair of YSL platforms, but you can still put a little spice in your step with shoe jewelry. Turn a pair of basic black pumps into one-of-a-kind, totally irresistible stilettos – or better yet – bump ‘em up to boots!
Above are a few designs from Dekkori and Litter SF that have caught our eye! With more and more designers embracing the shoe jewelry trend, this whole new way to accessorize may really catch on! Hope so – we’d sure welcome shoe jewelry in our Salemails!
A pretty great stocking stuffer if you ask me…

We all want to get our designer-loving friends and family the gifts they crave. But, let’s face it, this simply may not be within our budgets this holiday season. Bargain Chic — the guide to a fashionably frugal life — is here to show us how to get the job done in style, without spending a fortune!
We all know at least one person who emphatically declares like Rachel Zoe, they “die“ for designer items. They covet designer logos, expensive fabrics and haute couture looks like a girl on a diet craves chocolate. And trying to please them is not always easy on a recession-thin wallet. But this year, in particular, with stores trying to rev up their revenues, you can find plenty of designer-like items out there that ooze the sophistication and luxury of those pricey brands. Here are just a few chic gift items that can satisfy any of your designer-obsessed friends or family members this holiday season:
For that girlfriend smitten by the luxe look of designer handbags, check out Urban Outfitters’ Deux Lux Studded Hobo. It’s stylish, PETA-friendly (its faux leather if you can believe it!) and only costs $68.
Or, for your Sex in the City obsessed sister, pick up a pair of these Carrie-inspired Poetic Licensed pumps from Lori’s Shoes for a mere $88.
How about spicing up your mom’s play-it-safe wardrobe with a biker-inspired leather jacket, like this one from Frenchi for $168.
And, don’t forget about your stylish aunt, who loves one-of-a-kind items like this fancy and oh-so-chic From O’Keeffe Necklace from Anthropologie for $48.
Finally, we mustn’t forget about the men in our lives. Although most of them could care less about designer items, there may be a few fashion-forward fellows who dig those lavish looks. So, to please them, how about a bit of classy cashmere in the form of a scarf or sweater from J.Crew ( $68 and $62 respectively.)
So, the next time your Louboutin-loving friend or Chanel-salivating relative mentions a “too-die-for” extravagance, just know that with a little bit of searching, you can get them that designer-inspired item without that designer price-tag. They’ll love it just the same!

Swooning over these Givenchy lace-up boots but don’t have the extra $995 lying around to buy them? Luckily, lots of other designers have jumped on the corset boot bandwagon. Here are a couple Shop It To Me finds you can get and still be able to pay rent.

We’d love to share some highlights from this weekend’s shopping frenzy.
In a Shop It To Me analysis of over 25,000 sale items each from Black Friday/Cyber Monday this year and last, results show:
- Shoppers are scoring bigger deals this year! Both Black Friday and Cyber Monday discounts were bigger this year than last (47% off this year, compared to 43.5%-off on Black Friday and CyberMonday last year).
- This year, online-only retailers were the most promotional, even more so than last year. Department stores, however, tapered off their discounts significantly.
- This year, online-only retailers offered the biggest discounts (nearly 50%-off) compared to their department store counterparts (38-39% off) and single store brands (44-45% off).
- Last year, the story was different — with department stores offering the biggest discounts (45-47% off) compared to online-only retailers (44% off) and single store brands (40-41% off).
…Food for thought for the remainder of the holiday season!

Store promotions abound, shopping has become slightly frantic and you have an inexplicable urge to purchase velvet and sequins. The holiday gift-giving season has officially arrived. Here are some tips to stay sane and keep your keep your spending in check this year.
- Get group gifts. Know something your best friend would love, but it’s too expensive to buy on your own? Go in on it with your other friends!
- Keep it classic. It’s best to let friends and family buy trendy items for themselves. Stick to accessories and classic brands like J. Crew, Banana Republic and Kate Spade.
- Don’t forget to give the gift of Salemail. It’s the holidays – don’t hog the savings for yourself!
- Feed their guilty pleasures. What do your family members love but feel guilty buying for themselves? Whether it’s fancy shampoo or designer eye shadow, these items often don’t cost much but feel special to receive.
- Think about what they’ve bought for you in previous years and buy them something similar. People have the tendency to buy things they like themselves as gifts.
- Use coupon codes. At this time of year, stores offer plenty of promotions, so no need to buy full price. In your Salemail, any applicable coupon codes are located under the retailer header bars.
- Give gift cards. Invite friends and get free gift cards – they make great stocking stuffers.
- Free Shipping Day. It’s coming up on December 17th! Hundreds of online retailers are participating, so take advantage.
- Get items shipped directly to them. If you don’t live nearby, save yourself the airport woes and ship items directly to your friends and family – but remember to check delivery dates.
- Have your family’s sizes on hand. Take note of your family’s clothing, shoe and belt sizes before doing online shopping or browsing the stores.

Since we’re based in San Francisco, we weren’t able to make it to Lucky Shops in New York this year. Lucky for our Trendsetter Julia Dinardo of Fashion Pulse Daily, she got to put our tickets to use! Here Julia fills us in on all the glorious details of the event, from free cocktails to $50 Manolos. Special thanks to our Trendsetter Laura of Lollie Shopping for letting us repost this inside peek into the experience.
Although I’ve been in New York City for over 10 years, I’ve never gone to Lucky Shops before, and I can tell you this – I’ve definitely been missing out! Thanks to the gracious Laura/LollieShopping, I was able to attend the fourth annual Lucky Shops event this year, and I can tell you this — all of the coveted brands were there, from Rebecca Minkoff to Foley + Corinna, See by Chloe, Robert Rodriguez, Bing Bang, and more.
Free fruity drinks and tiny, adorable appetizers swirled around me and BFF Allison, trying to decide what booth to check out first. We got a lipstick color match at the Maybelline Color Sensational Booth (my perfect shade is Pink Peony, Allison’s is a shade of mauve), and then headed down the aisles for some serious shopping action. The aisles seemed to be largely grouped into categories, with most of the lingerie, shoes, accessories, clothes, and jewelry in their own respective area. We particularly loved the concept of the jeanius bar, that had a variety of popular jeans from JBrand, Paige, and more, with free hemming available on site.
We were glad to see a Shop for Success booth with the proceeds going toward charity, ooed and awed over the jewelry baubles, and cried over the beautiful handbags from our favorite designers. There were definitely bargains to be had, with a lot of items marked down around 50% off, and we even found a brand new pair of Manolos for $50 at Dress for Success. Overall, overwhelming thumbs up, and you better believe I will be back doing some intense shopping and martini sipping next year!

My mailbox has been overflowing in the recent weeks with various holiday catalogs, gift guides, and direct mail offers. Seems that too often, retailers throw a bunch of items together and try to present a gifting story that will resonate with shoppers. But the items selected often don’t strike the right balance — they are either inexpensive but look that way too (!), or are out of reach in terms of the $$ you’d realistically spend on most of the people you give to.
Nordstrom this year seemed to hit it right. Flipping through the Nordstrom “Gifts We Love” green gift guide this week, I was actually very impressed by their efforts. The first 10 pages or so focused on items under $100. They still incorporated elevated brand names, and showcased products that seemed covetable. For example, makeup from Nars, Bobbi Brown, and Lancome, leather goods from Kate Spade, and Hanky Pankys. Warm yet stylish jackets from Calvin Klein at $88 seemed like quite a steal! Converse sneakers made of sequins (all the rage) , and a variety of sunglasses from Marc by Marc Jacobs and Juicy Couture for $98.
I believe it wasn’t until page 54 or so that the items started to cost more than $100 — and then included higher end handbags, full-length shots of entire outfits, Tory Burch flats, Ugg boots, and more. The gift guide ended with a Men’s section that also included palatable prices for shoes, sweaters, and cufflinks/wallets.
All in all, I was impressed with what Nordstrom put together. It was a visually pleasing look at the variety of products they are offering this holiday season, and even more so – at compelling prices. It didn’t feel like I was overwhelmed with luxury items and the required 2 page spread on items under $100 — but rather the opposite. The guide was heavily weighted toward affordable luxuries, with a handful of higher end goods peppered in to give it some wow. Kudos, Nordstrom!
